The King Of Fighters 12 (PS3) Product Information

In celebration of its landmark 15th Anniversary, The King of Fighters XII -- one of the last great arcade 3-on-3 fighter games -- is about to get even greater. For the first time in its history, this ultimate fighting game has undergone a complete graphical overhaul. KOFXII features 22 gorgeous hand-drawn 2D characters from SNK's arcade history. All sprites used over the past 14 years have been dropped and replaced with new 2D high-definition, high-resolution sprites on detailed backgrounds. KOFXII aims to knock players out with new gameplay elements including critical counter attacks, Sousai (deadlock) counters and guard attacks, and the introduction of new online elements.

  • Experience KOF in hi-definition for the first time
  • More than 20 selectable characters
  • 3-on-3 tournament fighting
  • New fighting systems to master

The King Of Fighters 12 (P3) Review

SNK's King of Fighters series has been around for many years and the franchise originally stood as one of the key contenders against Capcom's now legendary Street Fighter series. In recent years, however, King of Fighters seems to have lost some of its momentum. The most recent addition to the franchise, The King of Fighters XII, was positioned to bring the series back into the spotlight and give it a "rebirth" of sorts. This theme emerged primarily from the game's brand new character sprites, which represent the first major visual overhaul King of Fighters has seen in ages.

Every character in King of Fighters XII has a Light Punch, Heavy Punch, Light Kick and Heavy Kick. These four attacks make up your absolute basic move set and can be used to execute all the other advanced techniques found in the game. Pressing both Light Punch and Light Kick will make your fighter take evasive action (usually in the form of a roll) while hitting both punch buttons will execute a throw.

Hitting both heavy attacks together will perform a Blow Back attack, which can knock your opponent away and give your fighter some room to breathe. Alternatively, hitting these buttons while holding back on the D-pad (or joystick) will perform a Guard Attack, which parries an oncoming strike and automatically follows up with an attack of your own.

King of Fighters XII is fun to play when you're fighting a buddy locally, but everything else about the game is seriously lacking. This is not the franchise rebirth that SNK was hoping for, as smoothly animated sprites can't make up for the bare-bones presentation and broken online support
